FNB Travel Insurance Review 2024

FNB Travel Insurance

FNB Travel Insurance provides travel insurance of up to R5 million for medical and related expenses.

FNB Travel Insurance is designed for FNB credit card and cheque account holders under the age of 75.

Outpatient services require an additional fee of R2,000.00 for medical and related expenses upon claim submission. In contrast, inpatient clients facing a medical emergency do not incur extra charges.

The insurance becomes active upon purchasing return tickets with a participating FNB cheque or credit card. Additionally, residents of Lesotho, Namibia, and Swaziland are eligible for this coverage.

Quarantine costs are reimbursed at R3,000.00 per day, capped at R30,000.00. An excess fee of R500.00 applies when making a quarantine-related claim.

Dental care up to R2,000.00 is covered, with an excess fee of R350.00 applicable for dental claims.

The plan also includes coverage for accidental death while traveling, up to R250,000.00, and accidental permanent disability, up to R750,000.00.

Other related expenses covered by the insurance policy include:

  • Medical Transportation, Repatriation and Evacuation
  • Compassionate Emergency Visit
  • Repatriation of Children
  • Repatriation of Travel Companion
  • Burial, Cremation or Return of Mortal Remains

Other types of emergencies are also covered by FNB Travel Insurance. The following are the pre-existing medical emergencies that are covered by the plan.

FNB Travel Insurance Included Medical Emergencies

The FNB plan covers the sudden and unexpected onset of a pre-existing medical condition that may necessitate emergency medical treatment. The plan pays for inpatient hospital expenses. Pre-existing medical conditions are covered for a maximum of R500,000.00.

The plan also covers any additional expenses incurred as a direct result of covered injuries, illnesses, or diseases.

The plan cover policyholders for the following:

Medical Transportation, Repatriation and Evacuation

The plan covers transportation to the most appropriate medical facility for the insured to receive necessary treatment. The plan allows for an organized plan in which an assistance company can assist in transporting the insured to a facility. If necessary, repatriation to the insured’s home country is also provided. FNB will make such arrangements through their assistance company.

Compassionate Emergency Visit

If the insured is hospitalized for 5 days or more in a row, the policy will pay for reasonable hotel and airfare expenses for a family member. Accommodation is paid for in a three-star hotel and does not include calls, meals, or drinks.

The insurance covers a family member who, on the advice of a doctor, stays with you until you are able to resume your journey.

Repatriation of Children

If your accompanied children are left stranded in the event of your hospitalization, repatriation, or death, FNB travel insurance will arrange and pay for their transportation back to their country of residence, if necessary, with a qualified escort, provided they are also insured by FNB.

Repatriation of Travel Companion

If your traveling companion is left stranded due to your hospitalization, repatriation, or death, FNB will arrange and pay for their transportation back to their country of residence with a qualified escort if required, provided they are also insured by FNB Insure.
