Discovery Bank Gold Cheque Account Review 2026
Discovery Bank's Gold Transaction Account is built around its Vitality Money rewards engine rather than being the cheapest account on the market. Verified against Discovery's own 2026 fee guide.
Key fees (effective 25 July 2026)
- Total monthly fee: R35 — R15 account fee + R20 Vitality Money premium.
- ATM withdrawal: R5 + R2.85 per R100 (own network); R2 at retail till points (Checkers, Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Spar); R95 internationally.
- Digital payments/EFT: R2.75; PayShap ranges R1–R5 or 0.55% (capped at R40), depending on tier.
- POS purchases: free, both local and international.
- Cards: additional/secondary virtual cards are free; a physical secondary card costs R54/month.
What Vitality Money adds
The R20/month Vitality Money premium buys into Discovery's behavioural rewards system — the more you save, spend responsibly, and engage with their financial-wellness tools, the more your banking costs and interest rates can improve over time. This is the account's core differentiator versus a plain no-frills account.
Is it worth it?
At R35/month, this isn't the cheapest account in the market — several accounts charge R0-R10/month — but the free local and international card purchases plus the Vitality Money engagement rewards can offset that if you actually use them. If you're not going to engage with Vitality Money, a cheaper transactional account will likely cost you less overall.
