The popular Solana blockchain wallet is expanding to accept two competing proof-of-stake blockchains.
Phantom, the popular self-custody wallet for Solana-based decentralized applications and NFTs, announced today that its desktop, iOS, and Android apps will now support competing blockchains Ethereum and Polygon.

According to the company, an easy-to-use self-custodial wallet is critical as an alternative to centralized exchanges and companies that handle sensitive customer data.

"We are pleased to provide the Phantom experience to the larger Web3 community," said Phantom CEO and co-founder Brandon Millman in a statement.

The goal, according to the company, is to enable the opportunity to engage with the three largest blockchain ecosystems in one location while also addressing critical usability and security concerns in the digital collectibles sector. Phantom claims to have collaborated closely with Polygon to create a first-class wallet experience, with over 3 million active users. According to the company, it hopes to make cryptocurrency more accessible to everyone by providing a simple, user-friendly wallet with a unified interface for storing and viewing assets across numerous blockchains.

A private multi-chain beta will also go live in the coming weeks, with a public debut later this year, according to the business.

"The Polygon community has been growing dramatically, and we are pleased about bringing more people into the Web3 ecosystem," stated Polygon Studios CEO Ryan Wyatt. "By working with Phantom, we will be able to create a feature-rich wallet that is ready for mainstream consumers to utilize when interacting with Polygon-powered apps."

Solana is a public blockchain platform that supports smart contracts. SOL is its native cryptocurrency. Anatoly Yakovenko proposed Solana in a white paper published in November 2017. This paper described a method known as "proof of history."  Solana's first block was established on March 16, 2020.  The crypto startup received an R5.3 Billion investment round led by Andreessen Horowitz in June 2021.
