Shining a light on unsung community heroes with Standard Bank and the Rouxville Development Agency

Rouxville Development Agency

Johannesburg, 14 September 2021: Annually, the Rouxville Development Agency presents an exciting prize-giving ceremony to highlight the Community Builder of the Year. These are people who help improve the lives of the people in Rouxville, in areas from religion and politics to music, arts, and recreation. The project started back in 2017 and, since then, has seen community heroes and heroines celebrated for their hands-on contribution to bettering the overall quality of life in this quaint Free State town. This year, Standard Bank was selected as the main sponsor of the event and will be participating in the much-anticipated awards ceremony. Standard Bank total sponsorship of R15000.00 will be honouring 10 winners which would include certificate issued to them.

About the awards

The Rouxville Community Builder of the Year Achievement Awards 2021 are aimed at uplifting and celebrating individuals and corporations who are making a real difference in the community. The goal is also to encourage other Rouxville residents to roll up their sleeves and take part in community-building initiatives, ultimately becoming role models and potential award winners. This keeps the wheel of development and upliftment spinning in Rouxville for years to come.

To cover as many aspects of nation and community building as possible, the awards are separated into various categories, including Best Achiever awards in education, music, sport, religion, crime prevention, and early childhood development. Award recipients receive recognition in the form of medals, trophies, or prize money to honour their achievements and encourage further community growth.

Building a better tomorrow

Standard Bank has long been committed to building communities for the future. Naturally, the company is proud to be part of this enriching initiative and event.

“We have a long-standing relationship with the community of Rouxville,” says Gary Brown, Consumer Coverage Head for retail at Standard Bank South Africa. “Since 2015, we’ve been involved in various development projects in the town – from Youth Day celebrations and construction projects to rendering banking services to town workers and residents. It was a natural fit to be part of the Rouxville Annual Community Builder of the Year Achievement Awards where real community heroes are identified and celebrated.”

Standard Bank hopes to inspire others to take up the banner of community development and become involved in similar projects throughout South Africa. The bank believes that every community can be improved by the hard work of its people and the contributions of like-minded organisations.

The awards will take place on Friday, 10 September 2021, with key community members such as the Acting Mayor of Mohokare Local Municipality, Rouxville Development Agency Chairman, and Standard Bank representatives in attendance. There will also be various live performances from local choirs and musical groups. It will be a day to remember.
