Investec Limited, headquartered in South Africa, operates as a financial services firm with a global clientele. It maintains a significant presence in Europe, Southern Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region. The company is dual-listed on the London Stock Exchange (symbol: INVP) and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (symbol: INL), and is a constituent of the FTSE 250 index.

Founded in Johannesburg in 1974, Investec initially focused on leasing and finance before diversifying its offerings to encompass a wide range of financial services. These include private, corporate, business, and institutional banking, as well as wealth management and other financial solutions.

A brief history of Investec

In 1974, a group of young entrepreneurs seized an opportunity to establish a leasing and financing company, a venture that proved highly successful. Larry Nestadt, Errol Grolman, and Ian Kantor, the company’s co-founders, collaborated to turn their vision into reality. By 1980, Investec had secured its banking license, marking its entry into the banking sector. To expand its commercial portfolio, Investec partnered with Metboard, a Trust firm, which led to the addition of portfolio management, a participating mortgage bond scheme, and an in-house unit trust to its array of products and services.

In 1986, the same year Investec acquired Metboard, the company went public on the JSE. Subsequently, in 1990, Investec embarked on several significant acquisitions, including I.Kuper & Company and Corporate Merchant Bank Limited. The acquisition of I.Kuper & Company (Pty) Ltd also introduced property management services to Investec’s offerings. Furthermore, a strategic alliance was formed between Investec and Fedsure Holdings Limited, a life insurance firm, aimed at bolstering capital and broadening the range of financial products and services available.

Investec’s expansion continued with its first overseas acquisition, Allied Trust Bank Limited, followed by acquisitions of Guinness Mahon, Henderson Crosthwaite, and Hambros plc, among others. In 2002, the company achieved a dual-listing status by listing on the London Stock Exchange. Over the years, Investec pursued various acquisitions, including the notable acquisition of NCB, an Irish brokerage firm. In 2018, Investec Asset Management announced its separation from the company, leading to its listing as a separate entity known today as Ninety One plc.

Insurance

The mortgage protection plan is designed to pay off your debt if you pass away. This is done to ensure that your family will not have to worry about paying off your home debt if you pass away. The coverage adapts as the outstanding loan balance decreases, and you can save up to 35% on premiums. The purpose of business overheads insurance is to ensure that a company’s overheads are covered even if the owner is not there. Because the business is operated by overheads, it is presumed that the business will continue to operate even if the owner is not there.

For permanent or non-permanent events, business overheads coverage can cover 100% of your business’s overheads. Income protection insurance protects you from losing your job. If you become ill or wounded, the insurance will pay out. This money can be used to cover living expenditures, medical costs, and other costs that your family may face while you are sick or injured. Severe illness, disability, and life insurance are some of the other insurance options. With disability insurance, you get a lump payment if you become permanently handicapped as a result of a major injury or disease.
