Covering a spectrum of 20 areas, from minor inconveniences like squeaky brakes to major concerns such as engine and gearbox malfunctions, the survey meticulously analyzed consumer experiences. The data was then translated into a “predicted reliability score” for each vehicle, graded on a scale from 1 to 100, taking into account the severity of reported issues.

Lexus emerged as the frontrunner with an impressive reliability rating of 79/100. Noteworthy models within the Lexus lineup, including the ES, NX, RX, and UX, are readily available in South Africa, offering consumers a reliable choice in the market.

Following closely behind Lexus is Toyota, the parent company of Lexus, securing the second position with a commendable rating of 76/100. Mini, a sub-brand of BMW, clinched the third spot with a score of 71/100. The report highlighted a trend favoring vehicles from Asia, boasting the highest overall score at 63/100, followed by European automakers at 46/100, and American brands at 39/100.

Analyzing different vehicle types, sedans, hatchbacks, and wagons emerged as the most reliable, with an average rating of 57/100. SUVs followed at 50/100, while minivans lagged slightly behind at 45/100.
