The Capitec funeral cover is a funeral plan that is available to people aged 18 and over, with monthly premiums starting at R25.00. The plan covers the main member up to a maximum of R100,000.00.
A spouse can also be covered for up to R100,000, and the coverage is available for spouses between the ages of 18 and 64.
Capitec funeral cover includes coverage for children up to R60,000.00. The children covered by the plan are divided into age groups.
Children aged 14 to 25 can be insured for up to R60,000.00 each. The plan also covers children aged 6 to 13 years old for a maximum cover amount of R50,000.00.
Children from birth to the age of 5 can also be covered under the plan for a maximum cover amount of R20,000.00 each.
Aside from the spouse and children, the plan also covers the parents of the primary member. Parents aged 26 to 85 years old can be added to the plan for a maximum cover amount of R50,000.00.
The policy is even more comprehensive because it covers extended family members. Extended family members aged 0 to 85 years old can be added to the funeral plan, with a maximum cover amount of R50,000.00 per person.
Capitec funeral insurance can cover up to 21 family members. The maximum cover amount is determined by the member’s relationship to the main member.
Capitec Funeral cover provides multiple benefits to both individuals covered and beneficiaries. We take a closer look at the benefits of the coverage.
Capitec Funeral Cover Benefits
The Capitec funeral plan comes with a number of benefits that a policyholder can enjoy. These benefits are individually discussed as follows:
Waiting Period Waiver
The waiting period waiver revokes the waiting period for Capitec funeral cover members. This benefit is available to individuals who are transitioning from a licensed insurer’s funeral policy.
The waiting period waiver suspends the waiting period for natural death and is available not only to the main member but also to the lives assured under the previous policy. This benefit is not subject to an additional premium under the policy.
Policy Pause
The policy pause benefit allows the policyholder to take a premium break by pausing the coverage for up to 6 months. The benefit must be activated after a 24-month waiting period.
The pause benefit allows the policyholder to reactivate the policy within 6 months of pausing it and continue to receive the same benefits. The plan is suspended during the time that the benefit is active.
Newborn Premium Waiver
The newborn premium waiver provides up to 6 months without any monthly premium as soon as the policyholder or spouse gives birth or adopts a child. The benefit comes with a waiting period of 6 months.
Accidental Death
The plan covers accidental death from the day the first premium is paid. The benefit pays out in the event of an accident-related death.
Capitec Funeral Cover pays twice as much for accidental death. The maximum benefit for children will be subject to South African law-mandated cover amounts.
Burial Repatriation
The burial repatriation benefit transports the assured life anywhere in South Africa. The advantage is that mortal remains are transported to the funeral home of choice closest to the burial location in South Africa.
Transportation is also available in the following countries: Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho, and Mozambique. This benefit will be provided at no additional cost to the policyholder.
Death Premium Waiver
If the primary insured life dies, the death premium waiver suspends the premiums payable. The benefit extends coverage for the remaining lives assured under the Capitec funeral cover for a further 6 months without the need to pay a premium following the death of the main life assured.
After receiving the premium waiver, the remaining lives assured under the policy can choose to continue with the funeral coverage. Premiums must then be paid to keep the policy active.
