In a groundbreaking move for outdoor enthusiasts, Jackery has unveiled an innovative concept rooftop tent that combines the convenience of portable shelter with sustainable energy solutions. The tent, showcased at CES, integrates retractable solar panels to provide up to 1000W of power when parked and open, offering a promising solution for those looking to escape the grid during weekend getaways or longer adventures.

Solar Power Revolutionizes Rooftop Tents

Traditional rooftop tents have often been equipped with lightweight, flexible solar panels to avoid overwhelming the folding mechanisms. However, Jackery’s concept takes a bold step by covering the entire roof with solar cells, extending them outward for maximum power generation. The design not only enhances efficiency but also neatly integrates wiring to feed the power directly into the Jackery E1000 Plus power station.

Fully Loaded Features for Comfortable Adventures

Beyond its energy prowess, the tent concept boasts a range of features aimed at enhancing the camping experience. Fitted with a memory foam mattress, insulation, dimmable lighting with color control, and waterproof fabric with blackout windows, Jackery ensures that adventurers can enjoy both comfort and sustainability.

Power Station and Versatility

The tent is paired with a separate 1.26kWh E1000 Plus power station, capable of 2000W of AC output. This power station can run essential devices, including a portable air conditioner, car fridge, or electric cooker. It’s a comprehensive solution for off-grid living, with the flexibility to charge from the car while driving or a wall jack.

Prototype and Future Enhancements

While the showcased prototype differs slightly from initial renders, Jackery’s Nimesh Patel assures that the shipping model will feature a 400W panel at the center of the 1000W array. The tent is designed to weigh less than 200 pounds, catering to various vehicle sizes, including sedans. Jackery is also working on expansion kits for additional storage and an AC inverter kit for quick power station charging from the vehicle’s alternator.

Embracing the Off-Grid Lifestyle

Jackery’s innovative concept aligns with a growing trend of catering to overlanders, vanlifers, and weekend warriors seeking fully integrated solutions for off-grid living. The tent not only provides a comfortable shelter but also empowers individuals to work remotely from inspiring locations, aligning with the evolving needs of the modern hybrid workforce.
