FlySafair, one of South Africa’s premier airlines, has exciting news for travel enthusiasts and adventurers alike. The airline is set to add a new flight route to its impressive roster, connecting the vibrant cityscape of Cape Town to the breathtaking landscapes of the Kruger National Park. This strategic move aims to enhance the travel experience, making South Africa an even more alluring destination for a diverse range of travelers seeking to explore the nation’s rich and varied offerings.
Starting from April 2, 2024, FlySafair will operate twice-weekly flights on the newly introduced Cape Town to Kruger route. The airline’s commitment to providing a seamless and time-efficient travel experience underscores its dedication to meeting the evolving needs of global travelers.
The CEO of the Southern Africa Tourism Services Association (SATSA), David Frost, expressed enthusiasm about the new route, stating, “FlySafair’s new Cape Town to Kruger route is a blessing for inbound tourism in South Africa.” Frost highlighted the increasing popularity of both destinations, with Cape Town witnessing a surge in international two-way passenger figures and the Kruger Park attracting around 4 million visitors last year.
The inaugural flight on this route will be operated by FlySafair’s Boeing 737-800 aircraft. With ticket prices starting at an affordable R1,851 one way, the flights will depart from Cape Town at 09h00 every Tuesday and Saturday, reaching the Kruger Park by approximately 11h30. The return journey will commence from Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport at 12h05, landing back in Cape Town at approximately 14h50.
Euan McNeil, MD of Flight Centre Travel Group South Africa, anticipates a positive impact on tourism, saying, “Until now, connectivity between these two popular locations has been limited. The introduction of FlySafair’s new route will draw more travellers to both regions, as well as the nearby Cape Winelands.” McNeil also emphasized the benefits for multigenerational travelers, providing access to diverse experiences catering to different ages and preferences.
The route is poised to bridge geographical and generational gaps, offering a unique blend of urban sophistication and natural wilderness. This innovative approach is hailed by industry experts like Murray Gardiner, CEO of GILTEDGE, who stated, “This new flight route is a game-changer and a fantastic addition to FlySafair’s network. It connects two of the most coveted travel experiences in South Africa.”
Not only does the route promise convenience, but it also enriches the travel narrative, allowing visitors to seamlessly transition between the urban charm of Cape Town and the raw wilderness of the Kruger Park. Murray Gardiner added, “The route significantly contributes to creating an interconnected South African travel experience and is certain to escalate our position in the global tourism arena.”
As South Africa solidifies its position as a leading travel destination, the introduction of transformative routes like this stands as a testament to the country’s growing appeal and the tourism sector’s resilience and innovation. David Frost noted, “It’s about inspiring travellers to linger longer and indulge in varied combo travel experiences combining the unique offerings of various provinces.”
FlySafair’s expansion not only facilitates travel but also reflects the dynamism of South Africa’s tourism sector. The new Cape Town to Kruger route is set to redefine travel possibilities, offering a gateway to the diverse landscapes and cultural treasures that make South Africa a must-visit destination.
