President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed his heartfelt condolences to the government of Botswana, as well as to the families and friends of the 45 passengers tragically killed in a devastating bus crash in Limpopo yesterday.

The tragic incident occurred on the treacherous Mamatlakala Mountain pass, situated between Mokopane and Marken. The bus, carrying passengers from Gaborone, Botswana, was en route to an Easter conference at the St Engenas Zion Christian Church in Moria, located just outside Polokwane. However, amidst this journey, the bus plummeted 50 meters down a ravine and erupted into flames, resulting in a horrific loss of life.

In light of this heartbreaking event, Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga also extended her deepest sympathies to the grieving families. She pledged government support in the repatriation of the victims’ remains, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that they are returned to their homeland with dignity.

“We extend our sincerest condolences to the families, as well as to the government and people of Botswana. As a nation, we are committed to providing every possible assistance to facilitate the repatriation of the deceased, allowing them to be laid to rest with the utmost respect and honor,” remarked Minister Chikunga.
