Exciting news has surfaced for gaming enthusiasts, as documents accidentally revealed in the FTC v. Microsoft case hint at a forthcoming refresh of the popular Xbox Series X console in 2024. Codenamed “Brooklin,” this revamped console promises an all-new design and exciting features that could reshape the gaming experience for users.

A Sleeker, Disc-Free Design

The most noticeable change in this Xbox Series X refresh is the console’s design. It takes on a more circular form, a significant departure from its predecessor’s monolithic appearance. Additionally, the new console is set to ship without a disc drive, emphasizing Microsoft’s commitment to the digital gaming landscape.

Enhanced Storage and Connectivity

Inside the new Xbox Series X, gamers can expect a significant storage boost. The console will now offer a generous 2TB of storage, doubling its previous capacity. This enhancement is particularly appealing to those who frequently download and store games.

Furthermore, a USB-C front port with power delivery adds versatility to the console’s connectivity options. USB-C has become a standard in modern devices, offering faster data transfer and efficient power delivery.

“Sebile” Controller: A Gamechanger

Accompanying the revamped Xbox Series X is a new controller codenamed “Sebile.” Microsoft seems to have gone all out in improving the gaming experience. The controller will include an accelerometer for gyro support, allowing for more precise and immersive gameplay.

The design of the Sebile controller is equally enticing. It features a two-tone color scheme, with white and black segments when viewed from above. In terms of connectivity, it will support a direct connection to the cloud, Bluetooth 5.2, and an updated “Xbox Wireless 2” connection.

Microsoft also promises “precision haptic feedback” and “VCA haptics that double as speakers.” This innovation could provide a more immersive experience, further blurring the line between the virtual and real worlds.

For those who value peace and quiet, quieter buttons and thumbsticks are a welcome addition. Moreover, the controller boasts a rechargeable and swappable battery, modular thumbsticks, and an intriguing feature: the ability to lift it up to wake it, enhancing overall usability.

Technical Upgrades and Pricing

Inside the Xbox Series X “Brooklin,” Microsoft is incorporating Wi-Fi 6E support and a Bluetooth 5.2 radio, ensuring seamless connectivity for multiplayer gaming and online content streaming. To improve efficiency, the company is also shrinking the existing die to 6nm, which will reduce power consumption.

What’s impressive is that Microsoft intends to keep the price competitive, targeting the same $499 launch price as the original Xbox Series X. This commitment to affordability ensures that gamers can access cutting-edge technology without breaking the bank.

Roadmap and Possible Xbox Series S Refresh

In addition to the refreshed Xbox Series X, Microsoft appears to have plans for the Xbox Series S. A possible refresh with 1TB of storage, Wi-Fi 6E support, and Bluetooth 5.2 is on the horizon. While a recent black version of the Xbox Series S was just launched, this new iteration could further entice gamers looking for an entry-level console.

Microsoft tentatively plans to release this new Xbox Series S refresh in September 2024, followed by the Xbox Series X refresh in November 2024, making it an exciting year for Xbox fans.
