In a bold move, Asus has unveiled its latest innovation in the laptop arena with the Zenbook Duo (2024) at this year’s CES. Departing from its predecessor’s design, the revamped Zenbook Duo features two equally sized 14-inch OLED screens, offering users an expansive and versatile dual-screen experience.
The Zenbook Duo’s dual 14-inch OLED screens boast resolutions of up to 2880 x 1800, with an aspect ratio of 16:10 and an impressive maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. The innovative design provides users with a total of 19.8 inches of usable screen real estate, setting it apart in the realm of dual-screen laptops.
Asus envisions users employing the Zenbook Duo in various configurations to enhance productivity. The laptop can be utilized in standard laptop mode, where the bottom screen is covered by a traditional keyboard and trackpad. Alternatively, users can opt for “Dual Screen” mode with the screens arranged vertically or “Desktop” mode with a horizontal orientation. Additionally, the “Sharing” mode allows users to lay the laptop flat on a surface, screens facing up, facilitating collaborative work scenarios.
In a departure from conventional designs, Asus offers a detachable physical Bluetooth keyboard with a built-in trackpad. This keyboard provides users with the flexibility to type on the lower touchscreen using a virtual keyboard or the physical Bluetooth keyboard with the convenience of an integrated trackpad. The Bluetooth keyboard can be carried between the two screens when not in use and charges through pogo pins on the edges of the lower screen.
Launching a year after its competitors, the Zenbook Duo (2024) is equipped with modern hardware to meet the demands of contemporary users. It can be configured with up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processor, a substantial 32GB of RAM, and storage options extending up to 2TB. The laptop features a robust 75Wh battery, ensuring prolonged usage without compromising performance.
Connectivity options include two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a USB-A port, HDMI out, and a 3.5mm jack, catering to diverse user needs. Asus has also designed the laptop to be compatible with its stylus, providing users with additional creative possibilities.
While US pricing and release date information is pending, in South Africa, the Zenbook Duo is set to be available from the end of January, starting at a competitive price of R32,299.99. The Vivobook Pro 15 OLED will be priced from R30,399.99, and the Vivobook S series will start at R18,999.99 in the local market.
