President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to host the 12th District Development Model (DDM) Presidential Imbizo in Mpumalanga on 7 March 2024. This event, aimed at fostering public engagement, comes as Cabinet calls on residents of the Nkangala District Municipality and surrounding areas to participate actively. The imbizo presents an opportunity for citizens to interact with leaders from all levels of government, addressing service delivery challenges and outlining plans for community development.

Minister in The Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, emphasized the importance of the DDM Presidential Imbizo, stating that similar events have taken place across all nine provinces. These engagements serve to bolster ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life for South African citizens.

In tandem with the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, Cabinet has greenlit the Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium South Africa (SIDSSA) 2024. Scheduled for 17 to 19 March 2024 in Cape Town, this three-day symposium will convene key stakeholders from the infrastructure sector. With a focus on accelerating infrastructure investments, SIDSSA aims to showcase progress made in implementing the Infrastructure Investment Plan approved by Cabinet in May 2020.

Minister Ntshavheni underscored the significance of infrastructure development in driving economic growth and job creation. She highlighted the role of SIDSSA in highlighting advancements in infrastructure investment and fostering collaboration among industry players.

Furthermore, the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (dtic), in collaboration with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) and the National Empowerment Fund (NEF), will host the second Black Industrialists and Exporters Conference. Taking place on 20 March 2024 at the Sandton International Convention Centre, this conference aims to recognize and celebrate business excellence among Black industrial firms. Minister Ntshavheni commended the success of over 600 Black industrial firms, which collectively generated approximately R80 billion in turnover during the 2023/24 financial year. These achievements highlight the tangible outcomes of efforts to integrate more Black entrepreneurs into the industrial economy.

The upcoming events, including the DDM Presidential Imbizo, SIDSSA 2024, and the Black Industrialists and Exporters Conference, reflect the government’s commitment to inclusive development and economic empowerment. By encouraging public participation and fostering collaboration across sectors, South Africa aims to address challenges, drive growth, and create opportunities for all citizens.
