Sony has unveiled the launch of its highly anticipated A6700 APS-C mirrorless camera, equipped with state-of-the-art AI-powered autofocus features, targeted at South African photography enthusiasts. The latest addition to Sony’s camera lineup brings advanced technology from its full-frame range to a wider audience at a more affordable price point. Priced at R26,599.81 for the body alone, the A6700 offers an attractive option for content creators, vloggers, and those seeking professional-quality photographs and videos.

With a 26-megapixel sensor, the A6700 delivers exceptional image quality and supports impressive 4K video recording at up to 120 frames per second, far surpassing the capabilities of its predecessor, the A6600, which was limited to 30 frames per second. This upgrade opens up new possibilities for capturing smooth and detailed video footage. South African creatives can now produce high-quality visual content without straining their budgets.

The A6700’s most significant advancement lies in its AI processing capabilities. Drawing inspiration from the highly acclaimed $3,900 A7R V camera, Sony has integrated advanced autofocus enhancements into the A6700. The camera’s AI algorithms allow for precise detection of various subjects, even distinguishing between different types of animals and objects such as cars and planes. This feature empowers users to capture their subjects with unparalleled accuracy and focus. Furthermore, Sony has added 334 additional phase-detect autofocus points, further enhancing the camera’s autofocus capabilities.

In response to user feedback, Sony has also made notable improvements to the A6700’s physical design. The introduction of a vari-angle touchscreen LCD provides greater versatility, especially for videographers. However, some still photographers may find this feature less appealing due to the additional steps involved in adjusting the screen for quick shots. Nevertheless, the A6700’s wider viewing angle and OLED screen, twice as bright as its predecessor, enhance the overall viewing experience, making it an ideal companion for outdoor photography enthusiasts.

On the connectivity front, the A6700 introduces a much-needed USB-C port, supporting USB-PD fast-charging and boasting 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) transfer speeds. Additionally, Sony has incorporated a customizable front dial and ensured compatibility with the Creators’ App, enabling seamless cloud uploads for South African photographers and videographers on the go.

The Sony A6700 represents a logical upgrade from the A6600, offering South African photographers and content creators the opportunity to capture professional-grade imagery and videos at a more accessible price point. While the camera body alone costs R26,599.81, on par with its predecessor, Sony provides bundled options, including the camera with the 16 to 50mm lens for R28,499.81 or with the 18 to 35mm lens for R34,199.81.

South African photography enthusiasts can now pre-order the Sony A6700 through the official Sony website. The camera is set to begin shipping in August, bringing the latest advancements in autofocus technology, AI integration, and affordability to South Africa’s photography community. With its exceptional capabilities, the A6700 aims to empower South African photographers to unleash their creativity and capture professional-quality visuals like never before.
