In a strategic move to enhance its leadership team, THE SPAR GROUP LIMITED has announced the appointment of Ms. Marie Jamieson and Dr. Elizabeth (Liesbeth) Botha as independent non-executive directors, effective from 1 February 2024.
Marie Jamieson brings a wealth of international experience to SPAR’s board. With a B.S.Sc Honours degree in Business Administration and a major in Marketing from Queen’s University Belfast, Ireland, Jamieson’s expertise extends to a Post Graduate Diploma in International Management from Teesside University in England.
Prior to joining SPAR, Jamieson served as the International Strategic Planning Director for TBWA, a global advertising and communications giant. With a career spanning over 40 years, including a decade in FMCG management at Smithkline Beecham, Jamieson’s strategic planning acumen is globally recognized. She also held the position of Chief Executive Officer at TBWA\Hunt Lascaris in Johannesburg and served at Absa for six years as Head of Marketing and Corporate Relations: ARO.
Dr. Liesbeth Botha, a distinguished professional in digital transformation, holds B.Eng and M.Eng degrees in Electronics from the University of Pretoria, along with a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University. Until June 2022, she served as the Chief Digital Officer of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Africa, where she played a pivotal role in digital business transformation and innovation strategy.
Her extensive career includes executive roles at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), where she chaired the board of UViRCO, a spin-off from the CSIR. Botha has also contributed significantly to academia, having been a professor of electronic and computer engineering at the University of Pretoria. Her specialization in Artificial Intelligence, data analysis, and pattern recognition makes her a valuable addition to SPAR’s board.
