Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, the President assured Parliament that any actions taken concerning members of the Executive implicated in the Commission’s findings would be based on the outcomes of processes undertaken by relevant entities. He underscored the importance of accountability and transparency in addressing allegations of corruption and malfeasance.
In October 2022, President Ramaphosa submitted his intentions to Parliament regarding the implementation of the Commission’s recommendations. The report included over 200 recommendations pertaining to criminal investigations and potential prosecutions of individuals, entities, and named groups. Ramaphosa emphasized that these recommendations were directed to law enforcement agencies, signaling the government’s commitment to holding accountable those implicated in corrupt practices.
Additionally, the State Capture Commission made recommendations for further investigation and possible disciplinary action against individuals and entities for various offenses, including tax evasion and directorial misconduct. The President reiterated that relevant bodies were provided with copies of the Commission’s report to facilitate action in line with their mandates.
Highlighting the government’s transparency efforts, President Ramaphosa mentioned the publication of comprehensive progress reports, with the most recent being in November 2023. He also noted the existence of a searchable online database accessible to the public and Members of Parliament, enabling them to track the implementation progress of the Commission’s recommendations.
The President encouraged citizens to utilize the online database available at www.stateofthenation.gov.za to stay informed about the government’s efforts in combating corruption and ensuring accountability. He emphasized the importance of collective action in restoring public trust and upholding the rule of law.
