The Mpumalanga provincial government is pioneering an educational revolution, enhancing learning experiences and nurturing innovation across 128 schools. Spearheading this transformative effort is the integration of coding and robotics, marking a significant leap in educational methodologies.

Addressing the State of the Province on Friday, Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane highlighted the remarkable progress of the pilot program. With 128 schools actively engaging in coding and robotics from Grade R to 3 and Grade 7, Mpumalanga is fostering a generation adept in technology, poised for future success.

In tandem with this initiative, the provincial government has embarked on a mission to bolster learner performance. Since 2022, Grade 12 learners in Quantile 1 to 3 schools, along with their educators, have been equipped with tablets and laptops respectively. Laden with e-content and offline applications, these devices ensure seamless access to learning, transcending the confines of traditional classrooms, even in the absence of data or connectivity.

Continuing its commitment to digital education, Mpumalanga is set to introduce the concept of smart schools in eight institutions. Embracing technological devices, both educators and learners will embark on a paperless journey, revolutionizing the learning landscape.

Moreover, the provincial government has secured land for the construction of a School for the Deaf and Blind in Emalahleni Municipality. This pivotal development will provide enhanced educational opportunities for 250 deaf learners currently enrolled at Bukhosibetfu Full Service School, along with 200 students from other specialized institutions.

The transformative agenda extends beyond education, encompassing robust job creation initiatives. Through various programs, including the Siyatentela Road Maintenance Programme and the Government Nutrition Programme, among others, over 63,000 jobs have been generated, uplifting communities and stimulating economic growth.

Underpinning the youth’s empowerment, the Premier’s Youth Development Fund has disbursed millions to nurture 182 youth-owned enterprises, fostering employment opportunities across diverse sectors.

In parallel, Mpumalanga’s tourism sector undergoes a revitalization, with upgrades to facilities in nature reserves and strategic collaborations to combat poaching. Initiatives such as the elevation of Loskop Dam Nature Reserve to a Big Five Game Reserve and partnerships to fortify conservation efforts underscore the province’s commitment to sustainable tourism.

The transportation infrastructure is poised for enhancement, with plans for a state-of-the-art interchange and the completion of vital projects aimed at improving connectivity and safety.

Moreover, the provincial government demonstrates unwavering dedication to social welfare, evidenced by initiatives to combat substance abuse and support vulnerable populations. With the construction and impending handover of treatment centers, coupled with support for Non-Profit Organizations, Mpumalanga strives for a cohesive society anchored in compassion and empathy.

As Mpumalanga charts its course towards progress and prosperity, these initiatives underscore its unwavering commitment to transformative governance, fostering a future brimming with promise and opportunity for all South Africans.
