Revamped SITA Board Unveiled by Minister

In a significant development aimed at repositioning the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) as a pivotal instrument for the digitization of the state, the Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Mondli Gungubele, has announced a new interim Board of Directors. The changes to the Board come in the wake of the departure and resignation of some directors, prompting the need for fresh perspectives and expertise to propel SITA’s strategic focus.

The newly appointed interim Board, which officially commenced its duties on 21 July 2023, boasts a diverse lineup of experts in various domains crucial to the agency’s operations. Minister Gungubele expressed confidence in this reconstituted Board, emphasizing the fusion of institutional experience and continuity as paramount in the pursuit of SITA’s mission. The primary goal of this reformation is to solidify the agency’s role as a leading expert on ICT matters within the government while fostering a transformative impact on service delivery for the nation.

Introducing the New SITA Board Members

The interim Board comprises accomplished professionals hailing from diverse sectors, each bringing unique skillsets and experiences to the table. The composition of the Board is as follows:

Ms Khathu Sibanda: Ms Sibanda brings over two decades of IT expertise to the Board. With a Master’s degree in Technology Management, she has steered successful technology and business strategy implementations in both the private and public sectors.

Dr Lucienne Abraham: Dr Abraham’s expertise lies in the digital knowledge economy and ICT policy and regulation. Holding a PHD in knowledge economies, she brings a wealth of academic knowledge and practical experience from her involvement in various Boards, the Public Service Commission, and diverse Committees.

Mr Luvuyo Keyise: A seasoned IT executive with a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mr Keyise boasts extensive experience in information technology and telecommunications across both the public and private sectors. He has previously served as an Administrator for SITA.

Ms Sherylee Moonsamy (CA): As an experienced Chief Financial Officer, Ms Moonsamy holds an Honours degree in Accounting and Auditing, along with an MBA. She has a track record of success in government administration and served in the previous SITA Board.

Ms Nolitha Pietersen (CA):

A seasoned Chartered Accountant, Ms Pietersen’s expertise spans both public and private organizations. She holds an Honours degree in Accounting and Auditing, an MBA, and has served on various Boards and Committees, including the previous SITA Board.

Mr Kiruben Pillay: Mr Pillay’s diverse background includes management and engineering expertise in mission-critical ICT environments. He is a registered professional engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa and a Senior Member of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers.

Ms Lerato Petlele: Ms Petlele is a seasoned Human Capital practitioner with extensive technical expertise in recruitment administration, labor relations, organizational development, and talent management. She holds a Master’s Degree in Commerce and a Master’s Diploma in Human Resource Management.

Mr Mandla Martin Mnisi: Mr Mnisi is a practicing attorney and Director at Mncedisi Ndlovu & Sedumedi (MNS Attorneys). His experience lies in providing legal advisory services to corporate clients, public sector clients, and state-owned entities.

In accordance with the Act, the Minister has also appointed representatives from the Department of Public Service and Administration, as well as the National Treasury. The following individuals have been assigned to the Board:
