In an unprecedented move geared towards advancing societal development and addressing critical health concerns, South Africa’s Deputy President, Paul Mashatile, is set to take center stage at the 3rd National Men’s Parliament in Limpopo on November 19, 2023. This significant event is a testament to his role as the Chairperson of the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC).

The 3rd National Men’s Parliament, a collaborative effort between the government, Parliament, and SANAC Men’s Sector, will gather leaders representing diverse segments of society. Deputy President Mashatile’s participation aims to catalyze action and mark the launch of the 2023-2025 Takuwani Riime Programme of Action, scheduled to unfold at Masia Village, Collins Chabane Local Municipality, Vhembe District.

This program represents a monumental stride in combating the prevalence of violence against women, driving socio-economic progress, and prioritizing men’s health, particularly in preventing HIV/AIDS. The gathering’s thematic focus this year centers on empowering community men’s parliaments and fostering men as change agents.

The phrase “Takuwani Riime” carries profound significance, translating to “let us stand up together” in Tshivenda. It encapsulates a rallying cry for men to actively engage and contribute meaningfully towards enhancing community safety, health, and socio-economic growth nationwide.

Notably, preceding the 3rd National Men’s Parliament is the Traditional Council Men’s Dialogue, steered by the National House of Traditional and Khoisan Leaders. Furthermore, the Department of Social Development will extend certificates of recognition to commendable community-based organizations dedicated to devising and executing initiatives supporting men and boys in navigating various societal challenges.

Deputy President Mashatile’s involvement will witness the support of various high-ranking officials, including Ministers, Deputy Ministers, the Premier of Limpopo, Members of the Limpopo Provincial Executive Council, Mayors, and senior government functionaries.

The event’s underlying purpose transcends a mere gathering; it symbolizes a concerted effort to forge alliances, leverage collective wisdom, and initiate actionable steps towards a safer, healthier, and more prosperous South Africa. The overarching goal remains firmly entrenched in fostering an inclusive society where men, as active partners, play pivotal roles in the nation’s progress.

By virtue of its comprehensive approach encompassing health, social engagement, and community development, the 3rd National Men’s Parliament stands as a testament to South Africa’s commitment to tackling multifaceted challenges while fostering an environment conducive to holistic growth and societal well-being.

As Deputy President Paul Mashatile prepares to take the stage, the nation anticipates a landmark event that not only underscores the significance of men’s participation but also heralds a new era of collective action and responsibility towards a better, more equitable future for all South Africans.
