Standard Bank has partnered with the Sunshine Ladies Tour to introduce a new event to the 2023 schedule, the Standard Bank Ladies Open. The tournament will be held at Royal Johannesburg & Kensington on the West Course from April 27 to 29. This addition reflects Standard Bank’s commitment to driving the development of women’s golf.

The Standard Bank Ladies Open, a 54-hole event, features prominent golfers like Lee-Anne Pace, a 14-time Sunshine Ladies Tour and 11-time Ladies European Tour winner, and Casandra Alexander, the winner of two tournaments on this year’s Sunshine Ladies Tour. The event marks the 10th season of Africa’s leading women’s professional circuit.

Sanah Gumede, Head of Wealth and Investment at Standard Bank SA, said the new event strengthens preparations for the Ladies European Tour by extending the season beyond March. The bank’s partnership with the Sunshine Ladies Tour signifies its investment in equality and meaningful change within sports.

Over the years, Standard Bank has supported various sports initiatives aimed at growing sports in South Africa at grassroots, amateur, and professional levels. The Standard Bank Ladies Open, which offers R1.1 million in prize money, provides an additional opportunity for South Africa’s local professionals and those competing on the Ladies European Tour.

Sunshine Tour Commissioner Thomas Abt expressed his gratitude for Standard Bank’s support, noting that the bank’s involvement is crucial for the expansion of the Sunshine Ladies Tour. The event will be hosted by the Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club, which has a long history of supporting golf development in South Africa.

The tournament will kick off with a pro-am on April 26 and conclude with the final round being broadcast live on SuperSport Channel 213 from 9 am to 1:30 pm on Saturday, April 29.
