In a bid to enhance efficiency and provide improved services to taxpayers and customs clients, the Alberton tax and customs branches will be closing their doors at their current locations on 21 July 2023. The closure is part of a planned relocation aimed at optimizing operations and enhancing customer experience. The move will see the branches reopen at new, more accessible locations on 24 July 2023.

The Alberton Customs Branch will reopen as a Pop-up Branch situated in the training center at the Alberton campus, 28 St Austell St, New Redruth, Alberton. The branch will operate from 08h00 to 16h00, Monday to Friday, ensuring that customers can access customs services conveniently during weekdays.

Simultaneously, the Alberton Tax Branch will reopen its doors at the Alberton City Mall, occupying shop 21 and 22 on level 1 (entrance number 10), cnr Voortrekker Rd and Du Plessis Rd, New Redruth, Alberton. The branch’s strategic placement within the bustling mall will offer easy access for visitors and taxpayers.

To facilitate a seamless transition, from 24 to 28 July, a Mobile Tax Unit will be stationed at the old tax branch location, catering to the scheduled walk-in appointments. The Mobile Tax Unit will operate from 08h00 to 16h00 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, with extended hours from 09h00 to 16h00 on Wednesday.

Throughout this period of relocation, all current services provided by both the tax and customs branches will be available at their respective new locations, but exclusively via appointments. This arrangement ensures that clients’ needs are adequately addressed and eliminates potential disruptions during the move.

The decision to relocate the branches was driven by a commitment to modernize and streamline operations, leveraging the benefits of more spacious and accessible premises. With these upgraded facilities, clients can expect enhanced service delivery and a more user-friendly environment when conducting their financial affairs.

Alberton residents and surrounding communities will now have greater convenience in accessing a wide range of services, including Financial Services, Credit, Lending, Personal Finance, Motor Vehicles, Insurances, and Banking. The new locations’ accessibility is expected to attract more customers and foster stronger connections between taxpayers, customs clients, and the relevant authorities.

In light of the ongoing global digital transformation, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) has been making significant strides in leveraging technology to streamline processes, enhance taxpayer experiences, and combat tax-related fraud. It is anticipated that the new branch locations will further complement these efforts, providing more modern and technologically-driven services to the public.

For clients seeking assistance or information, appointments can be booked through the official SARS website or by contacting the SARS hotline at (insert hotline number). By adopting a scheduled appointment system, SARS aims to reduce waiting times and efficiently manage visitor traffic, ensuring that each client receives personalized attention and tailored solutions to their unique needs.

The relocation of the Alberton tax and customs branches represents a significant step towards optimizing operations, improving customer experiences, and aligning with the evolving needs of the community. By investing in modern infrastructure and employing innovative technologies, SARS reaffirms its commitment to providing efficient, reliable, and accessible services to South African taxpayers and customs clients.

As the 24th of July approaches, SARS encourages all clients in the Alberton area to familiarize themselves with the new branch locations and appointment-based system. These changes mark a new chapter for the Alberton tax and customs branches, promising a more seamless and rewarding experience for all.
