Standard Bank has collaborated with Pick’n’Pay to increase the number of branches in the Western Cape and Gauteng. This initiative will bring banking closer to the customers of both organizations. Standard Bank has already begun to build in-store branches in select Pick’n’Pay locations.

To make banking easier for its clients, Standard Bank branches will offer a variety of banking services. These services include help with PINs, bank confirmation letters, account activation, debit order disputes, limit management, and other things. Standard bank personnel will also provide consultations and other banking services at the in-store branches.

Pick’n’Pay was one of the first retailers to offer its customers in-store financial services. Pick’n’Pay partnered with Tyme Bank, South Africa’s first digital bank, in 2019. Tyme Bank has ATMs in the majority of Pick’n’Pay retail supermarkets, making digital banking more convenient for customers. Tyme Bank has also included service rewards for its clients as a result of its partnership with Pick’n’Pay, which provides a lot of convenience. For example, the Tyme Bank debit card is linked to the Pick’n’Pay rewards card, the smart shopper card, so when customers swipe their Tyme Bank card at Pick’n’Pay outlets, they receive double the rewards as the regular smart shopper.

The first in-store Standard Bank branch opened in the Western Cape last month at Pick n Pay’s Richmond store. Pick’n’Pay says they are pleased to be able to offer their customers convenience that extends beyond their traditional retail products and services.

Pick’n’Pay’s Head of Omnichannel, John Bradshaw, stated in a statement, “Extending our service offering beyond traditional retail products and services is an opportunity we identified and acted on long before most others in the industry.” Customers are increasingly seeking accessibility and convenience, and we have worked hard to innovate to meet this demand.”

Funeka Montjane, Standard Bank Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Consumer & High Net Worth Clients, says the initiative will allow the bank to reach a broader range of clients who will be able to access banking services where it is more convenient for them.

Clients will be able to conduct banking transactions with the Standard Bank in-store branches at Pick’n’Pay after traditional banking hours because they will be operating according to Pick’n’Pay’s trading hours.

“Our philosophy is to create banking solutions that reach clients in the way that is most convenient for them,” Funeka Montjane explained.
