Martin Lawrence, an actor and comedian, has begun selling Cardano-powered NFTs

Martin Lawrence, an American comedian and actor, stated on Saturday (June 11) that he has sold the first NFT from his Cardano-powered “Martin: The Reunion” NFT collection for 3,000 ADA tokens.

On June 7, Lawrence announced a Cardano-powered NFT collection consisting of 30 unique pieces during a conversation on Twitter Spaces with Patrick Tobler, Founder and CEO of NFT-MAKER, and Charles Hoskinson, Co-Founder and CEO of IO Global (aka “IOG”, formerly known as “IOHK”), the company responsible for Cardano’s research and development.

Here are some highlights from Lawrence and Hoskinson’s conversation.

When and how Lawrence become interested in cryptocurrency

“My team introduced NFTs to my attention a couple of years ago.”

Lawrence’s Initial Thoughts on Cryptocurrencies and NFTs

“I’d like to understand more about them… That is why I am thrilled to be working with your organization.”

What Hoskinson Thinks About Cardano NFT Evolution

“At first, I didn’t expect Cardano to be a large player in the NFT space.” It took all of us by surprise. We worked extremely hard to establish excellent asset standards… We didn’t expect such a high number of NFTs, but it was entirely community-driven. So, all of these projects appeared out of nowhere, and roughly 40% of the 1000+ projects on Cardano are NFT-related. Over five million assets have been issued on Cardano, with a tremendous transaction volume…

“When you look at the last three months’ average, there are approximately $270 million(R4.3 billion) in sales occurring on a monthly basis.” So it’s an unexpected surprise, but it makes perfect sense in retrospect. When you look at the native asset standard, specifically the eUTXO model, it makes it incredibly easy to perform an airdrop, it makes it really easy and low cost to issue things, and it makes it really easy and low cost to manage these things that are coming through. So, in retrospect, it does make sense.”

Why Lawrence is interested in NFTs

“Well, I think it’s amazing that folks can have some, especially in the metaverse.”

What Lawrence Will Soon Reveal to His Fans and the Cardano Community

“We’re making 30 rare, one-of-a-one NFTs, and we’ll be making a special announcement soon.”

Then, on June 10, Lawrence announced that his “Martin: The Reunion” NFT collection was now available for purchase on his website, www.martincnft.com, and that holders of any of these 30 NFTs would be invited to the Hollywood premiere of “Martin: The Reunion,” which will air on Black Entertainment Television (BET) on January 16.
These 30 NFTs were “created by accomplished artists from Disney to Warner Brothers, as well as acclaimed artists from the NFT space.”

According to Lawrence’s website, the actual time and location of the premiere party in Los Angeles, where NFT holders will be able to hang out with him, “will be revealed to the buyers via an AirDrop message to their wallet on Tuesday 14th.”
